AT WAKEFELD AND DANBY

Connections and Counterpoints
From 29th March 2013

Exhibitions in Wakefield and Danby juxtapose the work of diverse artists to generate an energetic interaction of ideas.

The Hepworth Wakefield present a trio of separate but linked exhibitions by artists Alice Channer, Jessica Jackson-Hutchins and Linder Sterling. All three artists have engaged with the legacy of Barbara Hepworth as part of the process of making new works for their exhibitions here. Light-boxes, collage assemblages, sculptures made from everyday objects and ambitious installations are among the diverse practices employed by each artist in their inventive art that explores representations of the human body.

At the Inspired by….gallery in Danby, three artists share a common concern with the journeys that life takes, the changes and the challenges. Huge tree root sculptures by Azad Karim Mohammed allude to the enormous emotional impact of having to leave his home country. Printmaker Catherine Sutcliffe’s journey has been from the rural to the urban. Nicola Taylor’s photographs stem from the life changes that returned her to her roots in Yorkshire.

Art In Yorkshire Goes Contemporary will run from Thursday the 21st March to 31 October 2013, opening at
York St Mary' s - York Art Gallery's Contemporary Art Space.
